Datacom’s James Hemi David has been awarded the Deloitte Top 200 Young Executive of the Year Award at a ceremony in Auckland.

James, our enterprise portfolio manager, impressed the judges with his dedication to his career and corporate leadership, and integrating and celebrating his Māori culture within the corporate world.

He was also congratulated by the judges for his “huge vision, passion and outstanding leadership potential.”

For thirty years, the annual Deloitte Top 200 awards recognise and congratulate outstanding individuals and teams from New Zealand’s largest companies and organisations.

The Young Executive of the Year recognises emerging talent across the country and honours unique individuals who are prepared to go beyond perceived limitations to obtain excellence for themselves and their company.

In his time at Datacom, James has held the roles of cloud client executive and associate director for sales. He has grown some of the company’s contracts from NZ$25m a year to over NZ$150m and doubled the company's pipeline growth from NZ$300m to NZ$600m in the past 12 months, which support many lines of business and reaches 6,500 employees across New Zealand.

Speaking to the NZ Herald, James says, “A big part of my own belief system is driving social equality both in the workplace and in the community more generally. I am incredibly passionate about helping minorities, including gender and cultural, have a voice and an opportunity to contribute.

“Helping to get Māori, Pacific Island and also other diverse people of different ages into different roles helps to encourage different thoughts and ideas come to the fore.”

Liam Dann, a judge for this year’s Deloitte Top 200 awards, said James’ passion and desire to celebrate his Māori culture within the corporate world was a great example.

“James is confident moving in both worlds and very focused on bridging that cultural divide to change the country for the better.”
