Digital identity, growing Māori and Pasifika inclusion in technology, and a new mindset-based approach to understanding and supporting different ways of working are among the topics being tackled by Datacom speakers at this year’s Techweek events.
In a Techweek TV panel session, Associate Director Strategic Partnerships Teresa Pollard and ANZ’s Head of Pacific Tech Megan Tapsell are discussing how to grow Māori and Pasifika inclusion in technology and why embracing tikanga presents new opportunities.
Another Techweek event will see Teresa sharing insights into Datacom’s involvement with the Take2 programme, which teaches incarcerated individuals to code and then connects them with job opportunities in the sector after their release.
In Wellington, Datacom is hosting two days of the Mindset of Design Festival featuring a line-up of inspirational speakers, including Audrea Topps Harjo from A44 Games, Dr Mark Bradford from BeWeDō, Innovation Unit’s Jade Tang-Taylor and Launchsight’s Chris Meade.
Husain Al-Badry, Director of Innovation and Growth at Datacom, says Datacom is incredibly proud to co-host this year’s Mindset of Design festival, especially after the event had to be postponed earlier this year.
“Thinking outside of the box to help our customers achieve their goals is in our DNA so we love working with Creative HQ and are excited to experience the innovative way they’ve put together the festival with incredible speakers and the option for in-person or virtual attendance.”
Ben Dakers, Associate Director Customer Practice and Programs, is taking part in a panel discussion on Techweek TV about inclusive and ethical digital identity.
Ensuring equity around digital identities is increasingly important, with people using it to access critical services from voting to business registration, banking to healthcare, and tax to travel.
Ben is on Digital Identity NZ’s executive council and is co-chairing a working group that aims to help ensure inclusive and ethical and responsible use of digital identity technologies to ensure equitable digital identity outcomes for all New Zealanders. The group is also creating constructive forums to support discussions with groups that are either clearly disadvantaged in relation to digital identity or have concerns about the potential future uses of digital identity.
“Ultimately the working group is seeking to identify what we need to know to address inequity in digital identity technologies, and to put forward practical recommendations to drive action.”
Associate Director Growth Practices - Futures, Insights and Experience, Tracey Cotter-Martin is speaking at two booked events in Dunedin and Christchurch and will be sharing insights from a major piece of work examining mindsets, macro trends and industry pressures and how these understandings can be applied to create more empathetic work environments and better meet the needs of our teams and our customers.
