Datacom has named former Avanade General Manager Laura Malcolm as its new Managing Director for Datacom Australia.

Malcolm has been described as “a visionary business and technology leader” and has extensive experience spanning large consulting and technology organisations in Australia, APAC, UK and EMEA.

Her most recent role was as General Manager of IT consulting and services company Avanade where she led a team of more than 800 professionals across Australia.

Datacom Group CEO Greg Davidson says Malcolm’s breadth of experience will be a huge asset as Datacom continues to grow its business in Australia and build on its 30-year track record working alongside private and government organisations to develop and implement successful technology solutions.

“Laura has a wealth of experience spanning leadership roles and sales, pre-sales, consulting, strategy and transformation roles. She also has deep technology and consulting expertise, spanning a range of industry sectors and markets, which gives her a strong foundation to lead our team of more than 2500 people in Australia,” says Davidson.

“One of the deciding factors in appointing Laura was that her own values are strongly aligned with our Datacom values – she believes in building customer-centric, talented and inclusive teams, with a strong focus on culture and belonging.”

Malcolm will be based in Datacom’s Sydney office.

The recruitment search to find Malcolm was extensive following the departure of former Datacom Australia MD Alex Coates, who resigned after more than 12 years with the business.

Prior to her GM role with Avanade, Malcolm was the Growth & Strategy Lead for Avanade Growth Markets (Australia, Japan, Greater China, South East Asia and Brazil), she was also Avanade’s UK Digital Lead, UK and Ireland (UKI) Chief Operating Officer, Global Advisory Practice Lead, and she joined the company as CTO.

Malcolm has also held roles with Oracle, Capgemini, IBM and EDS, and several smaller technology startups.
