For over a century, T&G, like the fresh produce it distributes and exports, has grown season after season as a business. Now spanning across 13 countries worldwide, T&G needed new technology to help the core of its fruit business.

As a growing international company, T&G wanted a single enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that would provide an integrated and real-time view of its core business process, enable better collaboration globally, and enhance overall business agility. T&G wanted to host the system on a cloud-based platform, which would allow the company to deploy servers anywhere in the world without the need or cost of setting up and maintaining a data centre.

After selecting SAP S/4 as its ERP system, Amazon Web Services (AWS) was chosen as the preferred cloud-based platform. T&G’s global infrastructure could then incorporate future growth by deploying applications close to its end users and then scale to match growth far more efficiently. The agility and flexibility of this platform also meant no upfront costs or commitments when looking to expand its storage or network infrastructure in the future.

"The team from Datacom has provided us professional services for the implementation of the new landscape for our SAP S/4 HANA implementation on AWS. They accommodated our very tight time schedule and gave us the right level of support when we needed it. Thank you for enabling us to be the first company to go-live with SAP S/4 HANA in Australasia."

Jonathan Good – former Chief Technology and Operating Officer, T&G

Designing and building the AWS infrastructure from scratch, T&G worked with us to support, monitor and maintain the new platform.

The solution, which mixed the SAP HANA and Sybase ASE platforms, allowed T&G to migrate its systems from its legacy equipment, while simultaneously limiting hosting costs by reducing resource sizing and existing licences.

The staggered deployment to align with T&G’s release cycle helped the company to pay only for instances as and when they were required.

This was the first SAP HANA on AWS project undertaken by Datacom in Australia and New Zealand, and the entire project came in on budget. Completed in less than three months, T&G can now create test systems using DevOps methodology in hours rather than weeks, saving on labour costs and achieving significantly faster response times.
