When Pronto kicked off a two-year process in 2019 to migrate its cloud infrastructure to Datacom's co-located data centres in Sydney and Melbourne, Garlock and hundreds of other Pronto customers went along for the ride.

The move led to boosted performance for Pronto customers, thanks to AirTrunk’s unmatched infrastructure and connectivity. But, it was also an opportunity for David, a 12-year veteran of Garlock Australia, to re-think Garlock’s own IT set-up.

Impressed by the Datacom data centre in Sydney, he requested capacity at the facility to host Garlock’s own infrastructure and switches to connect directly to Pronto’s systems.

“I love how everything is organised at the Datacom's data centre and the fact it is so easily accessible. I don’t have to drive into the city centre with servers and network equipment anymore.

“Datacom turned out to be cheaper and offer better service, so it was a no-brainer for us.”

Datacom's data centre

With Garlock growing quickly via acquisition and about to launch a major new product in its lubricants division, the move to Datacom's data centre positions it to scale up its own hosted infrastructure, as well as to connect to the major public cloud providers as required.

Garlock is about to adopt the Pronto Xi customer relationship management (CRM) software and David has made it easier and safer for staff to connect to Garlock’s cloud-based services by implementing a type of ‘always-on’ virtual private network (VPN).

“Datacom makes it so easy to facilitate those sorts of things.”

With a move to Microsoft 365 just completed and Internet of Things (IoT) devices and Industry 4.0 applications also on Garlock’s radar, David has full confidence that Datacom can accommodate the company’s future needs.

“There’s plenty of room in our rack to expand at Datacom.

“It's a great place to visit. The security guards there are always friendly and happy. That’s usually a very good sign.”
