From its base in the western suburbs of Sydney, Computer Network Integration (CNI) Group has grown for 23 years. Today, it’s a thriving business and provides IT and networking support for small and medium-sized businesses all over the city.
CNI specialises in the remote and on-site management of computers, servers and networks. It takes the hassle out of running IT systems and networks so that its customers can focus on their own business.
There are three pillars to the company’s services, says CNI’s founder Peter Groeneveld: managed services for computers, servers and networks; cybersecurity protection and colocation; and protection of business servers and data storage.
When it comes to hosting and securing CNI’s customers’ data, one factor is of vital importance.
“It’s about avoiding disruption – the angst that goes with downtime. Making sure customers’ data is secure and accessible at all times is what matters most,” Peter says.
A typical CNI customer might have a network running 30 computers. But, as with most businesses, those computers are generating more data than ever and need to run an increasingly complex mix of applications. The ability to work remotely may also be a requirement.
“We have a lot of customers who want to keep servers on their premises, and still have the flexibility and scale of the cloud,” says Peter.
“It is up to us to make sure that all the options are covered and that if an on-premises server dies, we can connect our customers to the cloud seamlessly to get an exact duplicate of their applications and data.”
Central to guaranteeing that was finding a data centre partner who CNI could trust with its customers’ data. The answer lay on CNI’s own doorstep.

CNI was already a long-standing partner of Datacom. So, it made sense to consider the Datacom’s dedicated data halls in AirTrunk’s Sydney data centre in Australia (SYD1), located in the city's western suburbs – an area encompassing 60 per cent of commercial activity in the city.
“Once you've gone for a tour of the place, you just know that this is the sort of place you want your customers to be,” says Peter.
As Australia's premier information technology company, Datacom offers 100 per cent service level agreements (SLAs) on power, cooling and security.
While the facilities are second to none, it was Datacom’s flexible pricing plans and customer service that convinced CNI to become a reseller of Datacom.
“It’s cost-effective and Datacom is customer-orientated. There’s a lot less red tape dealing with them,” says Peter.
“The flexibility of their offering gives my clients freedom of choice not offered by other providers.”

For CNI’s colocation and data storage clients, efficiency means low-latency connections back to Datacom’s data halls. For most of these clients, it’s a short commute time for customers needing to install their own equipment into Datacom’s dedicated data halls at AirTrunk’s SYD1 hyperscale facility.
With Datacom also offering hosting and colocation services from AirTrunk’s Melbourne hyperscale data centre (MEL1), businesses up and down the east coast and across the country have access to these world-class data centres.
“After 12 years, this is a new phase of our relationship with Datacom. It already services a high-profile client base of banks, government departments, and large organisations, so I know that it sets a high bar when it comes to security and capability – something CNI customers can enjoy too. I am fortunate and honoured to be working with Datacom.”
Datacom’s work with CNI Group has helped establish us as an industry leader in bespoke data storage solutions. Peter Groeneveld recognised quickly that our data centres had the potential to elevate CNI’s capabilities, and we know you will too.
